The Mindful MashUp! Cohort Program helps people improve their mental health by combining therapy techniques with group support. It's focused on reducing impulsive behaviors linked to stress, like smoking tobacco or vaping. Each person gets six private sessions tailored to their needs, plus six group sessions where everyone talks about topics chosen by the group, fostering a supportive and empowering environment.

Who is eligible for this program?

  • Age 18 and over

  • Identifies as LGBTQ+

  • Tennessee resident

  • Tobacco user (cigarettes, hookah, vape, cigars)

  • Must be available and committed to complete the 6 month program

What to Expect as a Participant?

Commit to six months of consistent and meaningful engagement.

Attend atleast six individual therapy sessions and six group sessions.

Complete necessary surveys for research purposes.

Engage actively in discussions and activities during sessions.

Participate in focus groups.

Application Selection Process:

  • May - June 2024: Participants complete the interest form and submit responses to the provided questions. Application Deadline is Jun 30, 2024 at 11:59 PM.

  • July 1-15, 2024: Screening Call with Mental Health Therapist

  • July 15-30, 2024: The MashUp! Team will select the final participants and inform them of their selection status.


Participating in the Mindful MashUp! Transformation Cohort Program offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Therapeutic Support: Access to individual therapy sessions tailored to address personal needs, providing a safe space to explore and work through mental and emotional challenges.

  • Community Connection: Engage with a supportive cohort group of peers who share similar experiences, fostering a sense of belonging and understanding.

  • Decreased Impulsive Behaviors: Learn techniques to manage impulsive behaviors associated with mental and emotional distress, leading to improved self-regulation and decision-making skills.

  • Smoking Cessation Support: Receive guidance and resources to address tobacco use and smoking cessation, promoting healthier lifestyle choices and reducing the impact of tobacco on overall well-being.

  • Personal Growth: Opportunities for self-reflection and personal development through group discussions, feedback, and shared experiences, leading to increased self-awareness and confidence.

Cohort Timeline of Events

August 2024: Orientation Session

  • Selected members will attend an orientation session.

  • Complete orientation documents, including a data share agreement and initial survey, at the end of the orientation meeting.

  • All documents need to be signed and completed within 24 hours of the orientation.

Monthly Events: 

  • Monthly events will be determined by participants and Therapist

Individual Therapy Sessions

  • The Therapist will schedule one-one-one sessions with individual participants 

Participant Feedback/Surveys:

  • October 2024: Complete a mid-point feedback survey.

  • December 2024: Complete an engagement survey at the end of the program.

January 2025: Graduation Celebration (Project Presentations)

  • Participate in the graduation celebration where participants will present their projects.

Meet your Therapist

Mindful MashUp! faciliatated by Ashley Shelleylpc-mhsp. Outside of MashUp, Ashley runs her own private therapeutic practice in Nashville called Melanin and Mindfulness, LLC.. Ashley is also a certified yoga instructor and tarot reader. Private yoga sessions, guided meditation, and tarot sessions are a few of her additional therapeutic offerings. Along with being a therapist, she enjoys community engagement, blogging, hanging with friends, and traveling. In 2023, Ashley released her first EP, Me & Mi Meditation Volume 1, available on all major streaming platforms.
